Line Item Veto for Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill

I get that Mr. Trump wants to Make America Great Again (MAGA). I’m on board with that. However, we need to address some details before we go too far in the wrong fiscal direction. The Line Item Veto (LIV) is one tool we need to help Make America Solvent Again (MASA). Without it, we hurting ourselves needlessly.

So, let’s put the Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF). Add individual line item numbers for every line item of spending legislation in this one big omnibus spending bill. As the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) is an omnibus spending bill, it uses a holdover from the days of the Democrat’s fiscal irresponsibility where many individual acts of legislation are gather into one bill and voted on all at once instead of one at a time as the Constitution requires. Omnibus spending bills are inherently unconstitutional. So, add numbers to each line of spending legislation and make it constitutional. Not hard.

So here’s the rub, without each line being given a unique number, the veto power of the President is dismissed (or so we’re told). This again is unconstitutional and with an itemization for each spending act of legislation, the President can approve of some items and veto the remainder. This then will help us put our economic house in order.

The President doesn’t have to wait for Congress to do this first; he can do it himself. The veto power can be restored by the President simply by adding numbers for each item of spending legislation as it is presented to his office. Then, he can return the bill to Congress with his approvals and vetoes and they can either accept it or override it. The open door to a LIV is not one that Congress alone can do but it would certainly help to start there. Its amazing to me that with a Republican House, Senate, and White House that this hasn’t already been done.

Mr. Trump has many advisors, most of whom fawn over him. Few, it appears, will challenge him to improve his policies and initiatives for a greater potential of success. Advisors need to be the ones who could potentially lose their job via a redirect of perspective and application of Presidential initiatives so that the Administration can have a greater opportunity for success. Nothing succeeds like success and it is the job of advisors to advise not just ‘brown nose.’

So, let’s MAGA with this OBBB by adding itemized numbers to each item of spending or fiscal legislation. This way the OBBB will have a greater opportunity to succeed and fiscal conservatives can finally open the door to the long awaited for LIV.
